The National Institute against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (Inadi) received 2,542 complaints during 2022, of which half were made by women and the majority of the episodes were labor, according to the advance of the management report of the organism.

The distribution commanded by Victoria Donda told Télam that the 2,542 complaints received are a similar amount to those presented the previous year and that the largest area of complaints of violence and discrimination against women occurred in the workplace.

According to the “2022 Management Report: INADI, from Ushuaia to La Quiaca”, if classified by gender, 50% of the complaints were made by cis-female people, followed by 42% by cis-male; 3.15% female trans; 1.57% non-binary; 1.55% by legal person and, finally, 1.14% trans masculine.

“Women report more than men, that shows the gender issue in discrimination,” said Demián Zayat, Inadi’s director of Victim Assistance and stressed that “there are almost 6% of trans and non-binary people who made complaints , which is a higher percentage than what is in society, are overdiscriminated.”

“The good thing is that they turn to us because they know that we are here to help them,” he said.

The predominant area of complaints was employment with 25.45%; and the following were education with 11.49%; trade with 8.58%; public administration with 8.30%; health with 8.06%; communication with 7.87%; neighborhood with 7.75%; entertainment with 5.27% and transportation with 3.38%.

Since most of the complaints received were made by women in the workplace, the Inadi issued opinions in cases such as “not hiring women for stowage tasks, or volunteer firefighters, or against a club that did not give the same support to the women’s rugby team than the men’s,” the report portrayed.

“Several opinions were given for affecting reproductive rights. Thus, they did not hire a teacher because she was pregnant, and they fired employees for the same reason. Likewise, they fired an aspiring police cadet for being pregnant, and others were harassed and dismissed while breastfeeding”, added the document to exemplify the cases received.

Regarding the reasons that produced the complaints, the most predominant was disability with 20.93%, followed by physical appearance with 10.23%; health with 9.99%; sexual orientation with 8.97%; gender with 7.51%; gender identity with 6.45%; nationality/migration 5.82% and other reasons not cataloged with 8.38%.

Discrimination against people with disabilities is one of the most denounced before the Inadi and for this reason the organism issued opinions for lack of accessibility to a judicial building and for the refusal of entry to a guide dog in a restaurant, for example.

There were also resolutions for lack of a sign language interpreter to renew the driving license or for non-compliance with free passes for people with disabilities on public transport.
