HOUSTON – According to the Houston Police Department, a motorcyclist was killed after colliding with a possibly wrong-way SUV on Highway 59 South near downtown early Friday morning.
The accident occurred at 1:40 am near the Montrose Boulevard bridge in the northbound lanes.
According to police, the driver of the SUV was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when he collided head-on with the motorcyclist. Both the SUV and the motorcycle caught fire at the moment of impact.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, died at the scene of the accident.
The SUV was carrying three occupants, including the driver, who were not injured in the crash. However, according to police, the driver was showing possible signs of intoxication.
It is not clear how long the SUV was traveling in the wrong direction.
