The e-scooter provider Tier Mobility has expressed reservations about the prospects for alternative mobility offers under the new state government. “We had a very good dialogue with the previous government,” said Tier Germany chief of the German Press Agency. “With regard to the new government, we are initially rather cautiously skeptical. Mr. Wegner has previously rather than Driver’s advocate positioned. Now we have to see to what extent alternative mobility offers like ours play a role.”

Haas referred to the plan of the old red-green-red government to significantly expand the cycle path network in particular. In the new coalition agreement, the CDU and SPD are much more reluctant to comment on this topic: “We want to renovate existing cycle paths and set up safe ones,” it says there only. And: “We will also set up separate bike lanes, taking local conditions into account.”

According to the new coalition agreement, the future state government also wants to regulate e-scooters much more closely. Sharing providers in Berlin have had to apply for a so-called special use permit since last September. Within the ring, there is a fee of three euros per scooter for companies.

The new coalition wants to end “the illegal and dangerous parking of small electric vehicles” through “a city-wide call for tenders and concessions with corresponding conditions and ensure that these offers are available throughout the city”.

Tier Mobility is open to such tenders. “If these regulations lead to a reduction in providers and more order in public space, we are in favor of it,” emphasized Haas. “If the special usage fees are within reasonable limits and are used for a specific purpose, for example to expand and promote the cycling infrastructure, then that’s something we can go along with.” (dpa)
