“My Cloud” down: Western Digital reports “network security incident”

The storage products manufacturer Western Digital has apparently become the victim of a cyber attack. The company announced on Monday that it was investigating a network security incident. A burglary in some systems interrupted parts of the business operations.

Western Digital said in a statement that unauthorized third parties were able to obtain certain, but undisclosed, data from the company’s systems. The storage manufacturer is working to capture the nature and extent of the affected data.

Apparently, various services of NAS devices for private customers are also affected. Online access is not available for devices such as My Cloud and My Cloud Home (Duo), and the apps for synchronizing devices with My Cloud OS5 are also down. Western Digital also stated that the incident could cause further disruption to business operations. The company is implementing measures to ensure operations. This also includes taking systems and services offline.
