The national director of Epidemiology and Strategic Information, Analia Rearteassured this Tuesday that there is a significant circulation of coronavirus in the country in a context in which there is also a marked increase in cases of other respiratory viruses.
“Today we are with a very, very high circulation of COVID-19. Throughout this year we had viral circulation, we started 2022 with a very high circulation of Covid, SARS-CoV-2, concomitantly with influenza, which was a strange thing because influenza did not It usually circulates in summer”said the official.
In this context, he added that throughout the year “there was viral circulation, which is also somewhat rare because respiratory viruses have their seasonality in winter, with which the circulation of SARS-CoV-2 has altered a bit this past year” . “Today, then, we already have a decrease, but until a couple of weeks ago we had a very strong circulation of influenza viruses,” he added.
Rearte also remarked that “SARS-CoV-2 with these new variants is a tremendously transmissible virus.” In this sense, the expert recommended expanding vaccination as a basis for prevention, in addition to specific care such as the proper use of a mask in closed spaces, especially at times of high circulation of respiratory viruses; make the meetings outdoors; ensure adequate ventilation of environments; and frequent hand washing, among others.
According to data released yesterday by the National Ministry of Health, 47 deaths from coronavirus and 72,558 infections were reported in the last week in Argentina. More than 80% of the deceased had comorbidities and 32 of them had received at least one booster dose, although only three had received it in the last four months. As for infections, the figure for this Tuesday implies an increase of 17% compared to the previous part (61,903).
