Chihuahua.- The mandatory neonatal hearing screening should be a priority for legislators, at a time when forums are being organized to listen to society and have a new Constitution for the State of Chihuahua.

Abril Silva Rodríguez, audiologist, speech therapist and otoneurologist, commented that “in the state of Chihuahua only 7.12 percent of births are given a neonatal hearing screening, so it is urgent that the Chihuahua State Congress take action on the matter to make it mandatory.”

“The health of girls and boys should not be up for debate. Preventive actions such as hearing screening allow early detection of the presence of hearing loss or congenital deafness. Chihuahua is below the national average for hearing screening application and may be the state that sets the example to make it mandatory, ”she said.
