The theater and orchestra framework agreement (TORV) drawn up in 2019 between the state and local authorities was re-signed yesterday (April 28). In addition to the independent cities of Frankfurt (Oder), Cottbus and Brandenburg an der Havel as well as Schwedt and Senftenberg, the city of Potsdam is also involved this time. In Potsdam, the Hans Otto Theater, the Potsdam Chamber Academy, the Sanssouci Music Festival and, for the first time, the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg are supported. In the past, the latter has repeatedly had to struggle with uncertain financing.

The Ministry of Culture will support the state’s theaters and orchestras over the next four years with a total of 174 million euros. Over the four years, Potsdam’s facilities will receive around 16 million from the state, 5 million through the financial equalization between state and municipalities and around 25.4 million from the state capital. With the contract, which runs until 2026, the theaters and orchestras in the country are to be secured in the long term in view of the pandemic and rising energy costs.
