The heat pump specialist Stiebel Eltron will increase the number of jobs at the main plant in Holzminden to around 1,200 by 2027. In addition, the production area for heat pump heating systems will be expanded to the size of four football pitches – the company is investing 450 million euros in the Lower Saxony headquarters. With this, the GreenTech company is reacting to the boom in demand for climate-friendly heating without oil and gas.
“Stiebel Eltron is creating new jobs in Germany with the energy transition,” says Dr. Kai Schiefelbein. “Unlike many of our competitors, we are expanding our capacities for environmentally friendly heating technology at our local locations: For example, there are currently almost 400 employees working in heat pump production in Holzminden in Lower Saxony – by 2027 we want to triple the number of colleagues here, the production capacities will be roughly quadrupled . Preparations for the construction work have already begun.”
New GreenTech jobs in Germany
Despite the shortage of skilled workers, the number of employees at the German locations of Stiebel Eltron had already increased by a good 1,000 to around 3,200 within the last three years. In the future, most of the new jobs will be created in production, workshops and logistics. The family business is pursuing a pragmatic approach: On the one hand, they are looking for people who already have manual experience in an industrial workplace, for example in heating, mechanical engineering or automobile construction. At the same time, positions are offered that applicants can fill after an internal qualification of just a few weeks: “In our experience, with certain jobs in production, routine comes with work,” says Dr. Kai Schiefelbein.

People see Stiebel Eltron as an attractive employer: “During the job interviews, we are repeatedly told that the applicants want to find meaning in their work and that our GreenTech orientation therefore suits them,” says Rebecca Knauer, Head of Human Resources Germany at Stiebel Eltron. “We are involved in the energy transition and help to make the world a little bit better. With our tradition as a family business, we are also perceived as an emphatic, honest and authentic employer. This applies to the jobs related to production and administration as well as to the Research and Development.”

Taking responsibility for the energy transition and being measured by actions is a model for success: The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) in Brussels recently named Stiebel Eltron the “Leader of the energy transition 2023” – according to the audit, the entire product range is classified as environmentally friendly and compatible with the European climate goals.
