For his part, the mayor Juan Granillo Fernandez He expressed that this ordinance “comes to give equality for all, because it is a regulation that was discussed with professionals and experts in the field, and that enriched the norm that we are voting on today.” And he added: “Celiac disease should not be an impediment for those from La Plata and that they can come to eat wherever they want.”

Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, oats, barley and rye, which affects the small intestine of people with a genetic predisposition. This condition can appear at any time in life, from the time gluten is added to the diet until late adulthood. The consumption of gluten by a person with celiac disease affects the lining of the intestine and decreases the ability to absorb nutrients.

To date, there is no pharmacological therapy to treat the disease. The only effective treatment consists of following a strict gluten-free diet that must be implemented immediately after confirming the diagnosis and must be maintained for life. In Argentina there are 1 in 100 adults who are diagnosed with celiac disease, while in children it is 1 in 79 diagnosed patients.
