A new traffic rule will be introduced on German autobahns to make road traffic safer.

Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to 100 euros. What is it about?

New traffic rules for German autobahns

Tightening of rules or new traffic signs occur again and again in German traffic. Only recently has a new traffic sign appeared on German roads.

Now there is a new project, which should ensure more safety at high speeds on the highways. A new software should support this. In the Netherlands, police officers are already using the software to evaluate traffic jams and impose fines.

It monitors whether drivers are using their cell phones or tablets at the wheel. The software Monocam can detect this with the help of a camera, take a photo and finally send it to the police. They then evaluate the photos and can impose a fine of up to 100 euros.

New software monitors drivers – project starts in June

In Trier, the new rule will initially be tested as a pilot project from June 1st and evaluated for three months. The city of Mainz is then the test location.

In a first test phase on the A60 near Mainz, 20 violations were reported – although a large traffic sign pointed to the control. But drivers still use their smartphones at the wheel.
