In NRW, almost three times as many wind turbines were approved in the first quarter of 2023 as in the same period of the previous year. However, fewer were completed.

North Rhine-Westphalia is speeding up the expansion of wind energy: Almost three times as many plants were approved in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year. This was the result of a preliminary evaluation by the Onshore Wind Energy Agency, which is available to the German Press Agency. Overall, therefore 82 plants with a capacity of 427.6 megawatts approved. At the same time in 2022, there were 31 systems with an output of 159.2 megawatts.

On the other hand, fewer turbines were completed in the first quarter of this year than in 2022: namely 14 with an output of 71 megawatts compared to 26 turbines with an output of 100 megawatts in the previous year leaves even the windy north with Schleswig-Holstein (71) and Lower Saxony (57) behind. In terms of commissioning in the first quarter of 2023, Schleswig-Holstein (29), Lower Saxony (22) and Brandenburg (17) are ahead of NRW.

According to the evaluation, 295 systems with an output of 1645 megawatts were approved nationwide – after 213 wind turbines with an output of around 1110 megawatts in the same quarter of the previous year. (dpa)
