Noctua presents its NM-DD1 kit for direct contact with AMD AM5 processor chiplets

Noctua today presented its new kit NM-DD1Developed in collaboration with professional overclocker and cooling expert Roman “der8auer” Hartung, this kit is used to install a branded CPU cooler in direct contact with the processor die although in this case they are the two or three chiplets that socket processors have AM5.

This product is intended for a specific market niche, those dedicated to removing the Heat Sink Cover from the processor (IHS), a process known as delidin order to remove any components that could hinder heat transfer from the chips to the heat sink. It is important to note that this procedure carries certain risks on any processor and, of course, it results in the loss of the product warranty.

Unlike the usual bars, this kit is not yet available in physical stores, but it may appear shortly. However, it can be purchased directly from the Noctua website for a cost of 5 dollars. Additionally, the manufacturer offers the option to download the STL files so that users can print them with a 3D printer, which depending on the situation or location can be even faster or at zero cost.

The kit includes two components: the NM-DDS1 and the NM-DDS2. The former is designed for heat sinks with two mounting points and a mounting distance of 83mm, while the latter is for heat sinks with a single mounting point and a mounting distance of 78mm. Therefore, it will be compatible with many of Noctua’s coolers.although it is always recommended to check the compatibility of each model on their website.

own noctua explains the following about your product:

Developed in collaboration with professional overclocker and direct die expert Roman “der8auer” Hartung, the NM-DD1 is a mounting standoff kit that enables the use of a wide range of Noctua CPU coolers ( see compatibility list) on AMD AM5 processors where delid has been performed. Removing the integrated heat spreader (delid) and placing the heatsink directly on the die allows for much more efficient heat transfer and therefore it is possible to significantly lower CPU temperatures in the range of about 10-15 °C

The NM-DD1 includes spacers that fit under the heatsink mounting bracket(s) to compensate for the height of the heat sink (IHS) that has been removed, and longer custom screws that allow mounting brackets to be reinstalled with spacers attached. All parts required for the delid and direct die cooling mechanism (delid tools, direct die frame to protect the CPU, liquid metal thermal compound. See step by step guide) are purchased separately.
