North Korea deploys its fighter jets after reporting an incursion by a US reconnaissance plane

The North Korean Army deployed its combat aircraft this past Thursday after denouncing the incursion of a US reconnaissance plane over its so-called Exclusive Economic Zone, as reported today by the North Korean military authorities.

In a statement collected by the official North Korean news agency, KCNA, the Army denounced an incursion between 05:30 and 06:00 on Thursday morning (local time) 520 kilometers east of Wonsan, to the point of entering up to three occasions at a maximum distance of 14 kilometers within North Korean airspace.

“They entered without permission and began espionage work in the center and east of the country,” according to the Army, which denounces “a dangerous military provocation” after another similar incident denounced by Pyongyang on July 28.

After the deployment of the Eastern Anti-Aircraft Division planes, the North Korean reconnaissance plane ended up withdrawing after 07:00.

“We have already made it clear that the airspace over the East Korean Sea Economic Zone is part of the territorial airspace of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea where our sovereignty is fully exercised,” according to a statement referring to the portion that claim in the Yellow Sea and the Sea of ​​Japan.

“Our Armed Forces will be ready for any physical action to protect the sovereignty of the Republic,” the note added.
