Sony XM4: everyone agrees that these are one of the best wireless headphones in the world
All of the specialized press agrees: to find faults with the Sony WH1000XM4, you really have to look for the little beast. In terms of design alone, the helmet is extremely well finished, built with premium materials, elegant, sober, light, comfortable… nothing to complain about. We note the absence of multiple ugly and not very ergonomic physical buttons, replaced by intuitive gestures to be made directly on the headset. Everything works smoothly, even with hair on top.
Well, the design is very cute, but most people are only interested in 2 characteristics: sound quality and active noise reduction.
Let’s start with noise reduction. It’s very simple, the XM4 is one of the best in the world at this level, quite simply. There are only 2 or 3 newer and much more expensive models that are above. You put the beast on your ears, and poof, you’re in a bubble. The option is adjustable and can be deactivated of course (sometimes it can be dangerous to cut yourself off from the world), but when you want to be alone with your music, it’s stunning.
As for the overall sound quality, there is almost nothing to complain about. If you’re not a killjoy audiophile who spits on all things wireless, then you’re just in for a treat with these headphones, even more so if you’re coming from a lower-priced model. The bass is ultra deep, the highs are crystal clear, the mids are precise… a joy.
Autonomy is very good with 30 hours of listening with noise reduction on. One area where the XM5 does not improve. Furthermore, the XM4 can fold, where the change in design of the XM5 removes this possibility.
We don’t often think about it, but the device is compatible with NFC, which allows you to approach your Android smartphone near the corresponding logo on the left earcup for instant pairing. Enough to make iPhone owners who are not equipped with it. Well, after that, I have an iPhone and the headset connects to it automatically when it is switched on after its first pairing.
