14 years after its premiere, Michael Oher (37 years old) has filed a lawsuit in a court in Shelby (Tennessee) denouncing that a central element of the story was a lie invented by the family to enrich themselves at his expense.
Michael Oher alleges that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, who allegedly took Oher into their home when he was a high school student to help him with school and his football career, they never adopted it as explained in the movie and in the book ‘The Blind Side: The Evolution of a Game’.
The former player of Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers argues that less than three months after his 18th birthday, the couple tricked him into signing a document making them his guardians, giving them legal authority to do business on his behalf with which they and their two biological children they won millions of dollars for the movie rights and the player didn’t get anything.
“Michael’s adoption lie is one in which Leigh Anne Tuohy and Sean Tuohy have enriched themselves at the expense of their ward, the undersigned Michael Oher. Michael Oher discovered this lie to his disgust and embarrassment in February 2023, when learned that the guardianship he agreed to on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family did not, in fact, provide him with any family relationship to the Tuohys,” the lawsuit explains.
Sean Tuoh acknowledges that they are “devastated” after the accusations of Michael Oher
In a statement to the ‘Daily Memphian’ Sean Tuohy, a role played by Tim McGraw, acknowledges that “we are devastated” and declares that “it is upsetting to think that we would earn money with any of our children. But we are going to love Michael at 37 as we love him at 16”.
