Unemployment has decreased significantly

In 2022, an average of 8,975 people were registered as unemployed in Vorarlberg.

This corresponded to a decrease of 2,649 people or 22.8 percent compared to the previous year. Women and men benefited equally from this decline with 23.6 and 22.1 percent.

The development was even more pleasing for the long-term unemployed. In 2021, an average of 2,997 people were still long-term unemployed. The number decreased significantly to 1,878 people in 2022 (minus 1,118 people or 37.3 percent). The unemployment rate of 5.0 percent on average in 2022 has fallen by 1.5 percentage points compared to 2021. At that time, the rate was 6.5 percent.

“The last time the unemployment rate was 21 years ago, at 4.3 percent, was below the 5.0 percent mark,” says Bernhard Bereuter, AMS regional director, about the pleasing development. The proportion of registered unemployed people who have completed compulsory school as the highest form of training is still very high. In 2022, this share was 45.9 percent. This corresponded to an increase of 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous year.

On the Vorarlberg job market in 2022, with an average of 5,433 vacancies, there was an increase of 1,366 jobs (33.6 percent) compared to 2021. A total of 21,984 vacancies were reported in 2022 (this corresponded to an increase of 3,938 jobs compared to the previous year). The number of people taking part in training fell from 2,199 people (2021) to 2,154 people in 2022. That is 46 people (-2.1 percent) fewer who were able to complete a training measure.
