Only God prevented the unthinkable, Trump says

WASHINGTON– Former US President Donald Trump claimed on Sunday that “it was God” who prevented his death in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, and called on Americans to unite.

In a press release published on the Truth Social platform, the former president expressed to the entire nation:

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers yesterday! It was only God who prevented the unthinkable from happening. WE DO NOT FEAR, but will remain resilient in our Faith and defiant in the face of Evil. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families!

“We pray for the recovery of those injured and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly murdered. At this time, it is more important than ever that we stand together and show our true character as Americans by staying strong and determined and not allowing evil to triumph. I truly love our country and I love all of you, and I look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin,” Trump said.

“Only God prevented the unthinkable,” the former president and Republican presidential candidate said on social media, while calling on his fellow citizens to unite to “prevent evil from winning.”

He also confirmed that he will attend the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The former president was wounded in the ear in an assassination attempt during a political rally ahead of the presidential elections on November 5.

The 78-year-old Republican was carried off the stage with a bloodied face after a shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania, in the north of the country.

The shooter and a bystander were killed and two spectators were seriously injured.

Democratic President Joe Biden, who will face Trump in a highly polarized election, said there is “no place in America for this kind of violence.”

The two later spoke, according to the White House.

“At this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand together and show our true character as Americans, by remaining strong and determined and preventing evil from winning,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Sunday morning.

He also confirmed that he will attend the Republican National Convention, which begins Monday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
