Open call for scholarships for Mexican doctors in Spain

CITY OF MEXICO (EFE).- This Wednesday the third edition of international scholarships for specialization in urology in Spain for medical and nursing personnel from any region of Mexico was opened.

The scholarships, awarded by Iberdrola México in partnership with the Spanish Association of Urology, will allow healthcare workers to improve their techniques in a hospital in Spain, in addition to nursing staff being able to train in functional urology.

The support is part of the Urological Brigades program, with which the Spanish energy company has brought health and well-being to the south-southeast of Mexico.

“To date, we have performed 200 highly specialized surgeries for low-income patients, mostly women,” said Enrique Alba, CEO of Iberdrola Mexico, in a statement.

“In addition, we promote training and talent through these scholarships that allow them to have an international education in urology and work together with prestigious doctors from the Miguel Litton Foundation,” added the manager.

The company of Spanish origin recalled that the first scholarship was awarded in 2021 to the Oaxacan doctor Edgar Gaytán, while the second was awarded in 2022 to Ashmar Gómez Conzatti.

Both spent a month in various hospitals in Spain to expand their knowledge and improve their techniques in urology.

Meanwhile, this is the second time that this scholarship will be awarded to nursing staff. In the first edition, it was the nurse Eber Leticia Salazar Cruz who made the stay in various Spanish hospitals.

This new call for the scholarship will be open as of July 5 and the deadline for submitting applications is the 28th of this month.

Information about the requirements is on the official website of the foundation.

The selected person will receive training for a month in a hospital in Spain to improve techniques in laparoscopic surgery, kidney transplantation, robotic surgery in medical and surgical treatment in advanced uro-oncology, as well as functional pelvic floor surgery.

Meanwhile, the scholarship for nursing personnel covers a month of learning in functional urology to expand knowledge for the treatment of urinary tract disorders, pelvic floor and associated pathologies.

In the first edition, held in November 2019, eight urology experts performed 71 surgeries on 50 low-income people at the Hospital Regional de Alta Especialidad de Oaxaca, in the southern state of Mexico.

In the second edition, in 2021, 11 specialists performed 71 surgeries for the benefit of 55 patients; and in the third edition, 58 operations benefited 38 people.
