ChatGPT developers are trying to help users track down texts written by artificial intelligence. The company behind it, OpenAI, could help teachers to check student content for their own performance. Presumably all the teachers reading along here will have seen texts in the last few months that somehow looked like ChatGPT. In most cases, the content reads well explained, but sometimes the content is outrageously wrong. Be that as it may, OpenAI points out that its new tool, the AI text classifiers is not foolproof. The method of recognizing AI-written text is imperfect and will sometimes be wrong. At least 1,000 characters, ie around 150 to 250 words, are required for the analysis. Most importantly, the classifier is likely to be wrong for text written by children and non-English text, since it was primarily trained on English content written by adults.
