Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau states that an object has been shot down over the Yukon area.

– I ordered the shooting down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace, he writes on Twitter.

Trudeau says the object was shot down by an American F-22 aircraft on behalf of NORAD.

– The Canadian military will now collect and analyze the wreckage of the object, continues the president

The Prime Minister says he has spoken to US President Joe Biden.

Spy balloon messages

Just over an hour before the Prime Minister’s announcement, Canadians reported Global News that the US-Canadian Aerospace Command (NORAD) monitored what were supposed to be one or two possible spy balloons.

It has not been confirmed whether the downed object was actually a balloon. There is also no further information about the object’s properties or size.

It is the second day in a row that an unknown flying object has been shot down in the northern regions of the American continent.

On Friday, the White House announced that an American fighter jet had shot down a flying object over Alaska near the border with Canada and precisely the Yukon territory.

NORAD writes in an update on Saturday evening Norwegian time that work is underway to get hold of the object that was shot down on Friday. It must be difficult to lie on frozen water.

This object is said to have been far smaller than the Chinese balloon that the US shot down earlier in February. According to the US, it did not pose an immediate military threat, but could be a danger to civil aviation.

The US believes the Chinese balloon was a spy balloon. China says it was a stray weather balloon. This too should have flown over Canada.

It is so far not known whether these three objects have any connection with each other.
