Even a German film has received more than one Oscar nomination. The anti-war drama “Nothing New in the West” by director Edward Berger has been nominated in the categories of best film and best international film, among others. And is therefore one of the favorites at the award ceremony in March. With a length of just over two hours, the film, which can also be seen on Netflix, depicts the horrors of the First World War. The film is also nominated in eight other categories, such as Best Adapted Screenplay, Makeup and Visual Effects.
In the best film category, however, “Nothing New in the West” has to compete with absolute top-class filmmakers: Elvis, the second part of Avatar and Top Gun: Maverick have also been nominated in this category.

Oscars 2023: A German composer has also been nominated
German composer and pianist Volker Bertelmann is in the running for an Oscar. He composed the music for the anti-war film Nothing New in the West.
Oscars 2022: Will Smith gives a slap in the face
The 2022 Academy Awards may well have a bigger place in the history books. Actor Will Smith not only received the leading actor award for “King Richard”, but also the most headlines. During the live broadcast, he slapped comedian Chris Rock after he made jokes about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett. Smith was subsequently banned from the Oscars for ten years.

The Oscars have been awarded since 1929. The author at the time was Louis B. Mayer, President of MGM Studios. The film prize is now awarded in more than 30 categories. Not only cinema films can be nominated, but also films that have been released by a streaming provider since 2022.

Oscars 2023: who will host
Jimmy Kimmel will host the 95th Academy Awards on March 13 in Los Angeles. For the third time he will then be able to lead through the event. “To be invited a third time to host the Oscars is either an honor or a trap,” Kimmel quipped.

For male actors, Daniel Day-Lewis tops the list with three awards for best leading role. He won the award for his roles in My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood and Lincoln. Katharine Hepburn, however, has an Oscar ahead of him: she has received four awards from the Academy.
