On the sidelines of Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Lyon on Monday, a security perimeter where demonstrations are prohibited has been decided. The CGT has announced that it has filed an appeal.

“Leave Jean Moulin where he is”. Guest of the BFM Politique program this Sunday, the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire defended the ban on demonstrations decided in Lyon in the Montluc district, where Emmanuel Macron is due to go on Monday as part of the commemorations of the 8 -May.

“The freedom to demonstrate is total in our country. It does not exclude respect for the capitulation of Nazi Germany on May 8, 1945”, reacted the minister on the set of BFMTV.

“Leave Jean Moulin where he is”

The departmental union CGT of the Rhône and the metropolis of Lyon had called for a rally devoted to the social heritage of the Resistance on May 8, near the Memorial of Montluc where Emmanuel Macron must go.

However, it will not take place, following the decision of the Rhône prefecture to ban all “processions, parades and protest rallies” near the Memorial.

“That we protect May 8, 1945 to respect the memory of this historic moment, that seems wise to me”, supported Bruno Le Maire.

And to indicate: “I don’t really like it when we make the great figures of history speak for them. Let’s leave Jean Moulin where he is. (…) May 8, 1945 is a moment of union and it must remain a moment of national unity.

An appeal filed

The argument that the commemorations of May 8, 1945 must constitute a truce in the protest against the government of Emmanuel Macron is an argument already mobilized earlier this Sunday, by the spokesperson for Renaissance Loïc Signor on BFMTV.

“Saucepans would be perfectly out of place near the Arc de Triomphe. May 8, 1945 is a moment of communion, and national and European union”, he declared on our antenna.

This Sunday, the CGT du Rhône announced an appeal against the ban on demonstrating in the security perimeter.
