Mexico City.- Given the scriptwriters’ and writers’ strike that is currently disrupting the tranquility of Hollywood, this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards ceremony had to be transformed at the last minute.

Originally planned to be a physical event to be broadcast live this Sunday, the organization ultimately decided to launch a pre-recorded show, especially after several guests canceled their participation in the show in solidarity with the Writers Guild of America (WGA, for its acronym in English).

But even with these changes, the award ceremony progressed without major complications and generated a lot of interest on social networks, especially due to the pre-recorded messages from several of the winners.

Tom Cruise, for example, sent a thank you video after receiving the Best Performance in a Movie award for Top Gun: Maverick. In the clip, the Oscar nominee appears piloting a plane.

With the award (MTV’s classic golden popcorn) behind him, Cruise thanked his voters for supporting his films, and invited them to see the next installment of Mission: Impossible in July.

“Thank you so much for this award. I make these movies for you. I love you. I love entertaining you. And to know how much you enjoy those movies, how much you appreciate them, there’s no better feeling.

“I hope you have a great summer. Thanks again for letting me entertain you. It’s an absolute privilege. I’ll see you at the movies,” said the actor in the video, posted on MTV networks.

Another memorable moment at the gala was the delivery of the Comedic Genius award to actress Jennifer Coolidge. The award is given annually to those artists whose comedy is loved by the public, as well as being relevant to society.

In years past, this award has gone to actors like Kevin Hart, Melissa McCarthy, Jack Black, and Will Ferrell.

“Most of the time, all great comedy is born with great writers. As a proud member of SAG (Screen Actors Guild of Hollywood), I stand before you tonight side by side with my sisters and brothers of the WGA.

“They are fighting right now for the rights of artists everywhere,” Coolidge concluded in his pre-recorded video, supposedly from the comfort of his home.

In addition to rewarding celebrities such as Pedro Pascal, who won several dovecotes for his This is Us series; Jenna Ortega, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez, the MTV Movie & TV Awards offered previews of new tapes.

He highlighted the first look at the song “Kiss The Girl” from Disney’s live-action movie The Little Mermaid, where Halle Bailey (Ariel) is seen with Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric) as they sail on a boat and the animals around them sing to them.

Days before the awards ceremony, which was originally to be hosted by Drew Barrymore, the awards organization released a statement explaining the last-minute change.

“As we carefully search for the best way to deliver the fan-first awards show we imagine our team has worked so hard to create, we’re moving away from a live event,” said Bruce Gillmer, executive producer of MTV’s Movie & TV Awards.

“But this still allows us to produce a memorable night filled with exclusive sneak peeks that we know our audiences expect. We’ll have countless moments to surprise and delight as we honor the best of film and television over the past year.”
