Pedro Piqueras' farewell to television: I wish you times of more happiness

I didn’t want to cry and he has achieved it. Pedro Piqueras has said goodbye to Telecinco News after eighteen years at the helm of the program. The journalist, who after fifty-one years of profession and thirty-five on television has closed his long and successful professional stage, said goodbye, visibly moved but without tears in his eyes, just as he had proposed.

The days leading up to the farewell have been the most exciting. The network and professional colleagues, from both Mediaset and other communication groups, have expressed their best words for the Albacete communicator. Even within the same program, a fellow reporter has highlighted the It has been lucky to have you from the Teatro Real, where the Christmas Lottery draw will be held on the 22nd.

The time has come to say goodbye, only this time I’m not going to tell you until tomorrow. I close 51 years of profession between Diario Pueblo, Radio Nacional and television. He first appeared with Pilar Mir on Televisin Espaola in 1988 and I was stuck in the screen. Good years there, as also on Antena 3 and the last 18 here, on TelecincoPiqueras has begun.

Insisting on his gratitude to all the people and companions he has met along the way, Pedro Piqueras also had a few words for his viewers. I am very grateful to everyone who has taught me this trade and to you for allowing me to enter your home. The time has come to leave and thank the directors of the network, with whom I have tried to make news programs based on respect for the facts and the opinions of the protagonists.

Praise for his replacement

Piqueras’ seat will be occupied from the next installment of Informativos Telecinco by journalist Carlos Franganillo, recently signed by the Fuencarral group from Spanish Television. He comes from the great school of public television and joins this house where he will find great companions.

Finally, in a generalized message for the audience, the protagonist has given an overview of Spanish society in just a few words. I leave with the best of memories, of having been with you for so many years. I wish you times of less tension, more justice and more happiness. Good night and goodbyehas settled.

The words of his successor

Many fellow journalists have wanted to say goodbye to Piqueras on their social networks, in addition to congratulating him on his enviable career. And, among all of them, Carlos Franganillo could not be missing. The first day that I presented the TVE Newscast I received a very affectionate welcome card. It was from the great Pedro Piqueras to encourage me. In a few minutes the stage on Informativos Telecinco closes. A huge professional and a first class guy. Good luck and thanks, he wrote.
