Governor Omar Perotti referred this Thursday to the attacks perpetrated in the last hours in schools and police stations in Rosario, which resulted in an upsurge in violence in the city. “These are actions to institutions that were untouchable before,” he assured.
During a press conference, Perotti analyzed the delicate scenario of the local territory. “They are using us to send messages to other gangs, to the penitentiary system or to Justice”, he launched about the mode of operation of criminal gangs.
“We have a structural situation that must be faced. The tension between the different gangs linked to drug trafficking generates violence, but we also have other facts that are typical of economic crisis processes,” said the head of the Gray House.
“Certain limits are exceeded in audacity, in the risks that are taken, in the effects of substances,” he continued and stated that the attacks on educational establishments are associated with “unthinkable behaviors and are actions to institutions that were previously untouchable. The last place we were going to put a camera in was the police station because we assumed that there was a different protection instance there, ”he acknowledged.
In addition, he considered that these are “phenomena that not only occur in the province” and linked them to the ravages of the pandemic. “It forces us to take different strategies and attitudes,” he said.
On the last point, he analyzed the latest attacks on police stations. “The last place one would have thought cameras should be placed is in a police station, however today a police station is also one of the targets (of criminals).”
On the other hand, he analyzed the logic of the current criminal activity and considered that they are used “a police station or a school to get the attention of all the media and pass a message to others. I think they are using us to send messages to another gang, to other actors in the neighborhood, or to transfer claims to the prison system, to a prosecutor or to the Justice itself. It is a photo that we do not like but it is what happens, the problem put on the table crudely”.
