If you diligently follow the news of the Pokémon license, you are aware that we are approaching an annual meeting awaited by fans around the world: “Pokémon Day”, held on February 27 to commemorate the creation of the license, and where announcements are regularly made. As the event approaches, some of them may start to leak…

Like every month of February, “Pokéfans” around the world are waiting for only one thing: the famous “Pokémon Day”, a day of celebration dedicated to the anniversary of the most lucrative license in pop culture, which is held on February 27. During this event, The Pokemon Company broadcasts a live called “Pokémon Presents”, which is an opportunity to return to the news of the flagship game of the moment… but also to announce expansions, remakes or ports, or even new unreleased titles. In addition to probable DLC for Pokémon Scarlet / Purple, a possible yet unannounced remake could very well see the light of day during this broadcast…

What is Pokémon Day?

Every year, at the same time, it’s the same story: The Pokémon Company is organizing its annual high mass at the end of February aimed at establishing its roadmap for the coming year, through an online broadcast entitled “Pokémon Presents”. If the latter does not systematically take place on February 27, the official anniversary of the franchise, it is always around this date that the event takes place, and 2023 should not be an exception to the rule. During this presentation, the publisher usually unveils its upcoming major game, as was the case in 2022 for Pokémon Scarlet / Purple, but also more secondary titles such as ports or remakes, or even DLCs when no new game is on the program. A focus is generally also made on mobile versions such as Pokémon Go or, more recently, Pokémon Unite.

The “Pokémon Day” edition 2023 is fast approaching!

A Pokemon remake on the run?

Of course, like every year with the approach of Pokémon Presents, some players don’t really want to be surprised, and track down the smallest bits of information allowing them to know in advance what The Pokémon Company could reveal. If some announcements are obvious or almost, like more than likely extensions for the last episode of the main series, others could be real surprises. However, digging into the source code of the official sitea page of which serves as a teaser for the event, a particular mention caught the eye: that of Spike ChunsoftJapanese publisher/developer known in particular for the DanganRonpa saga… but also for having designed titles for a series of spin off Pokemon!

Pokémon: the return of a cult game after 3 years of absence?

Indeed, Spike Chunsoft is at the origin of the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, started on gameboy advance and Nintendo DS in 2005 with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team by developer Chunsoft, before its merger with Spike in 2012. But above all, and this is where it becomes particularly interesting, this team is at the origin of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, published on Nintendo Switch in 2020. Since the Mystery Dungeon “sub-series” has hosted many other episodes in the meantime, on DS but also on Wii and even Nintendo 3DS, it would not be surprising to see the name of Spike Chunsoft associated to another similar project. A new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon on Nintendo Switch seems very likely, and could be announced in ten days, although the exact nature of the project is far from obvious.

Released 3 years ago on Switch, will Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX have a sequel soon?
