A 44-year-old man is said to have set off several fireworks on Saturday evening (January 7) at Dellwig-Ost station. The federal police announced that the S9 entering the S-Bahn station had to initiate emergency braking.

Railway employees had alerted the federal police around 11 p.m. The officials were able to arrest a man (44) who is said to have thrown burning fireworks in front of an arriving train. The driver of the S9 stated that he had noticed the fireworks when entering. When burning parts of it were thrown into the track area in front of the train, he initiated emergency braking. According to current knowledge, no passengers were injured. The onward journey of the S9 was delayed by several minutes.

On the platform of the Essen-Dellwig-Ost stop, the officials found several recently burned “pyrotechnic products”. The accused man from Essen stated that he had not given any thought to possible dangers. The Federal Police initiated an investigation into the violation of the Explosives Act and the dangerous intervention in rail traffic.
