Police suspect widower of former Phoenix prosecutor killed 2 women and committed suicide

PHOENIX — Authorities suspect that the widower of the former top prosecutor in Phoenix County shot and killed a woman with whom he had a relationship and her mother before committing suicide.

David DeNitto is suspected of killing Maryalice Cash, 47, and her mother, Cynthia Domini, 83, after an altercation at a home where there was a Christmas party. The police have launched an investigation.

DeNitto, 47, was the husband of former Maricopa County Prosecutor Allister Adel, who died in April 2022 due to unspecified health reasons. Adel, the first woman to be elected Maricopa County Attorney, served in that position from October 2019 until she resigned in March 2022.

He resigned amid criticism of his management, including the dismissal of 180 misdemeanor cases because charges were not filed before the allowed time frame. She also faced scrutiny over whether her problem with alcohol, which she admitted, affected her ability to do her job.

County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, who succeeded Adel, said in a statement that “it is impossible to understand a tragedy like this. Words cannot adequately express the outpouring of grief. “I ask the community to join me in praying for the affected families and, especially, for Allister’s children.”
