The Karlskrona resident traveled to Syria in the fall of 2012 and joined the al Qaeda-linked group Mujahedeen Fi Ash-Sham, which fought against government forces during the civil war.

The man who was charged with crimes against humanity at the Blekinge district court at the end of last year, is said to have posed for pictures with dead bodies in connection with the fighting.

Denies crime

When the man – who denies any crime – was asked about the pictures during the proceedings in the district court, the 44-year-old answered:

– The fighting was over and they just told me to guard the gates. Then someone came and said that there are dead people up there on the mountain, and I wanted to go there to look. And there were dead bodies.

Why are you in the picture?

– I’ve said it a hundred times. Everyone took pictures. You try to slander me and say that I was in the war.

The prosecutor believes that the pictures where the Karlskrona resident poses with dead bodies were uploaded for war propaganda purposes and has requested a prison sentence of between eight and ten months.
