Positive in the Giro d'Italia: Alex Buadin disqualified for tramadol

LThe UCI has communicated today the disqualification of AG2R cyclist Alex Buadin from the Giro d’Italia after testing positive for tramadol. This substance is the same for which Nairo Quintana was excluded from the 2022 Tour de France. The 22-year-old Frenchman did not manage to do much of a job in the Italian race, achieving a discreet 73 place overall.

The curious thing about tramadol is that it is a substance Banned by the UCI since 2019, but does not fall within the organization’s Anti-Doping Rule Violation. This means that the runner can be disqualified, but is not penalized for future races and can continue competing normally.

Nairo Quintana, positive in an anti-doping control during the Tour

This is the same thing that happened to Nairo Quintana, who was disqualified from the last Tour but did not suffer any other sanction. Was Arkea who decided not to renew the Colombian’s contract and this event could be one of the reasons. Therefore, we will see if AG2R takes action on the matter regarding its broker and applies some sanction internally.

Tramadol is used as an analgesic to relieve pain. Its prolonged use is expected to be used by people who need a medicine to relieve pain all the time.
