The ad honorem president of the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), Yamil Bukele, today toured different sports venues to verify the progress of the works, ahead of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023 (COSSAN2023 ).
“We are very happy, really, for the progress of the work in the Jorge “El Mágico” González National Stadium, since it is quite significant. I think that we are going over 50% in the financial part and 40% in the part of infrastructure or execution work, this contemplating, as the contractors tell me, that all the sports equipment has already been requested and that would considerably increase the execution of the work and the percentage of development of the same, ”explained Bukele.
The head of INDES highlighted that this scenario, which is part of the prioritized intervened thanks to financing of up to $115.2 million granted by CABEI, means a lot for Salvadorans, and especially for COSSAN2023, since it will be the venue for the inauguration and closing of the event, and of the different modalities of athletics.
“I am happy with the type of grass that is going to be used, which is Bermuda. Many Salvadorans asked, I can confirm that it is Bermuda and will be imported from the United States. The drainage system is, one can say, one of the best, the lighting, the characteristics of the stands, the entire system of seats will be installed in 100% of the stadium’s sports scene, ”he mentioned.
According to Bukele, observing the progress in the works gives him peace of mind that the project will be finished within the estimated period.
“The tour leaves me highly motivated to continue working since, as the contractors mentioned, yes or yes they are on tight time, it must not be said that we are left over, but that they are tight, but the sports scene will be ready for the inauguration of the Central American and Caribbean Games”, he commented.
By extension, he explains that this represents a message of calm for Salvadorans who insistently ask about the progress of the works in this and other sports venues.
“Indeed, it is to give peace of mind to the entire population and not only peace of mind that the works are being carried out in a timely manner, but also that the commitment on the part of the government of President Nayib Bukele to dignify our greatest soccer exponent at the national level and international, Jorge ‘Mágico’ Gonzalez, who in life, God first, can inaugurate the remodeling of this sports venue that bears his name, and of course, that El Salvador can have decent sports venues, not only for local use, but also also to project our country internationally”, he commented.
In relation to the rest of the sports venues that he visited (El Polvorín Sports Complex, Flor Blanca Sports Complex and Ciudad Merliot Sports Complex), the president assured that progress is beginning to be noticed.
“Obviously I am not an engineer or an architect, but by taking a tour and talking with specialists in the field, it gives us a bit of peace of mind that the sports jousts are going at a good pace. We must remember that we, the Salvadorans, the government of President Nayib Bukele and COSSAN2023 have only had a year and a half to be able to develop, remodel, rebuild and launch the most important fair in Central America and the Caribbean, which we have assumed with the total commitment, dedication and devotion to give our country and the salvadorans the best happiness”, he commented.
Bukele sent a message to give confidence to all the athletes, leaders, coaches and fans in general.
“I can summarize that to date today we are satisfied with the progress in all sports venues and here it is not to sleep, but to go hand in hand with the contractors, with the supervisors, so that everything is in time and form for the sports joust ”, he mentioned.
