The Colombian delegation that will be at the Amazon Summit in Brazil is integrated by Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva Durán, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad and the director of the Administrative Department of the Presidency, Carlos Ramón González.
The president will participate in a meeting of Heads of State of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (OTCA), which will take place between August 8 and 9 and is summoned by the host, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

“This treaty It was signed in 1968 and this will be the fourth time in which the signatory countries meet, but the first in the midst of the climate crisis facing the planet,” said the Colombian ambassador to Brazil, Guillermo Rivera, in an official video.
The agreement will reflect Colombia’s priorities in terms of the need to establish common goals to stop deforestation, the illegal extraction of minerals and the expansion of the extractivist frontier.

What is ACTO? It is an intergovernmental organization constituted by the eight Amazonian countries that signed the Amazon Cooperation Treaty.
Among which are: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela. The member countries assumed a common commitment for the preservation of the environment and the rational use of the natural resources of the Amazon.
