01net, and its 01Lab, revives testing of processors, graphics cards and other gaming components and peripherals. And for the occasion, we present our new test platform.

While 2023 will be the year of the release of both a new generation of CPUs, with in particular the latest 13th generation Intel or the Ryzen 7000 series from AMD, but also – and above all – of a new generation of graphics cards. with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 and the Radeon RX 7 series, 01net is again looking at the tests hardware. We are gradually putting ever more in-depth tests on the work, with one objective: to answer all your questions and give you the best advice.
To be able to put the tested components to the best test, to be able to push them to their last entrenchments, we have set up a new hardware test platform within the 01Lab, in partnership with Infomax, ASUS and Western Digital.

The new open bench from 01lab

Each of our future hardware tests will always highlight this configuration, so that you can establish for yourself the conditions under which we carried out our measurements. Here is our test platform – at the outbreak of hostilities:

We first chose a configuration called “open bench”, or without a closed box, for several reasons. First a practical reason, since this test platform is intended to accommodate many components that we will have to remove and put back in a few seconds. But also to have a measurement of the heating which is common to all our tests, in an environment more liberated than a box.

We deploy two test platforms: one built around Intel processors, and another equivalent with AMD chips. Other than that, all the components are pretty much the same, so you can compare the two platforms more easily. removing the slightest variation. The interest of having these two platforms is also for us to be able to test each graphics card in their best shape: if AMD promises that its graphics cards benefit from a strong link with their CPU, we can test it. Obviously, this platform will evolve in the futureand our Test Platform insert will reflect this.

The ROG Strix Z790-F GAMING WIFI motherboard is equipped with technology AI Overclocking, which comes to optimize the performance of the computer in real time. As for the ROG Strix X670E-F, it has the Dynamic OC Switcher which allows a overclocking processor manual, while retaining the Precision Boost Overdrive, from AMD. Either way, we’ll disable these features to put our platforms on par, but be aware that they’re easily accessible in the BIOS.

On the cooling side, the ROG Ryujin II 360s we use have an LCD screen on the pump, which is customizable. Obviously, we plan to give it a nice animation in our colors. But above all, it comes with three NOCTUA Industrial PPC PWM fans. The ROG Thor 1000W Platinum II power supply incorporates an OLED screen that displays the real-time consumption in Watts of the configuration, which will allow us to monitor this parameter on our two systems according to the connected devices. All with a slew of customizable Aura Sync RGB effects.

On storage, we can count for our two platforms on the Western Digital BLACK SN850X. Two NVMe SSDs in M.2 2280 format in PCIe Gen 4 which allow you to take advantage ofup to 7,300 MB/s read speed and up to 800,000 IOPS. How to follow the trend gaminglaunched by new generation consoles, which relies on ultra-fast storage to optimize in-game loading.

We thank once again the Parisian store Infomax, Western Digital as well as ASUS – and particularly Thomas Prou – for their support in this project. Thanks to this partnership, 01net is preparing to offer you tests hardware always more complete for this new year 2023.
