To celebrate its 30 million PS5 consoles sold since their launch in November 2020, Sony decreed at the last CES 2023 the end of the shortage. Excellent news a priori for all those who are desperately trying to buy one of the two versions, with stock shortages that have been linked for 2 years.
Unfortunately, this announcement by Jim Ryan, the boss of Sony Interactive Entertainment, did not remedy the absence of PS5 in France. It is still possible to obtain the console, but often at a high price, by buying from marketplaces import products in particular or Packs.

In order not to spend more than necessary, you have to be patient and watch for the arrival of units, often in dribs and drabs, from a few major brands. ? How to use alert systems to be notified of new PS5 stock?
Good news, for those unlucky ones who still haven’t managed to buy a PS5, there are a few tricks to speed things up. When you know that it only takes a few moments for a new stock to be robbed, going around the shops every day is a necessary evil, but one that relies a little too much on luck.

How to receive an alert on AMAZON.FR
Go to Amazon’s PlayStation Store. Select the PS5 Classic Edition and click Request Invitation. You must of course have created an Amazon account beforehand, if this is not already the case. The site warns that it only has limited quantities and that it will not be able to meet all requests. If this is the case, however, you will be notified by email that it is possible to buy the console at the manufacturer’s price through a link valid for 72 hours. This option is not offered for the PS5 Digital Edition.
How to receive an alert on FNAC.COM
For Fnac, the principle is a little different. If you wish to access the alert system, you must create an account (if you do not already have one) and identify yourself on the site. Click on the unavailable product to open its file, wait in the queue set up by the site, then click on the bell. In the window that opens, click Alert me to find out about a possible return of stock.
How to receive an alert on DARTY.COM
Unsurprisingly, it’s the same thing, presented more explicitly than on Fnac. When a product is indicated as unavailable, you can click on “Notify me when this product becomes available” and enter your email. The only downside is that it is currently impossible to find the offer at the manufacturer’s price, Darty favoring the promotion of products from third-party sellers, which are more expensive but available.
How to receive an alert on MICROMANIA.FR
You must search for the product of your choice via the search engine and among the selection offered to you, the unavailable products display a Create an alert button. If you have a Micromania account, click on it and enter your email and your phone number to be notified.
? Choose a PS5 pack to circumvent the shortage
Other sites generally do not offer alert systems, but there are other solutions for obtaining the PS5 console. You can easily find Import products on most brands through Marketplaces, unfortunately often very expensive.
On the other hand, the offer is more reasonable for Packs that include additional games or accessories with the PS5 console. On the PlayStation site, the PS God of War Ragnarok Console Pack is offered at a price of 619.99 euros. At third-party sellers, this same pack is certainly sold at a higher price, but this type of offer remains more affordable than certain imports which easily pass the 1000 euro mark. At Cdiscount in particular, this Pack is offered at 759.99, but with two additional games (Gran Turismo 7 and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart). Not uninteresting if you have the budget and want to treat yourself. A Pack offer is also the possibility of accessing the Digital Edition of the PS, which is almost impossible to find. At Amazon, for example, the PS Digital Ragnarok Pack is 698.89 euros.

? What are the differences between PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition
Both equally well equipped with their ultra-powerful AMD platform, the two models of PlayStation 5 consoles, the PS5 and the PS5 Digital Edition appear to be strictly identical and benefit from the same accessories. However, the PS5 Digital Edition is a little thinner (by 8 mm) and lighter (by 600 grams). The reason for these slightly different dimensions? This version is not equipped, unlike the standard model, with a 4K Blu-ray player. This feature is enough to explain the price difference of a hundred euros between the two models.
Is spending 100 euros more for the standard model with blu-ray player worth it? It all depends on your habits. If you only buy digital versions of your games, the Digital Edition model will suffice. All you have to do to play is sign in to your PlayStation Network account, then go to PlayStation Store to buy and download games.
On the other hand, if you like your collection of “physical” games with your boxes that sit on your shelves, that you regularly watch DVDs or Blu-Rays, you might as well opt for the classic edition. It should also be noted that with the latter you can easily take advantage of games loaned, exchanged or offered by your friends, enough to quickly amortize the additional 100 euros over time.
Finally, note that a third model could be added to the two current PS5s in the coming months. The rumor that has been around for some time predicts the arrival of a PS5 Slim for the next school year in September. As its name suggests, this model would be thinner and would have a removable disk drive. A more recent rumor announces, meanwhile, a PS5 Pro which could be released as early as spring 2023. It could be a more powerful model and benefit from liquid cooling. If ever the launch of such a console took place (nothing is of course guaranteed), it would necessarily be marketed at a higher price.
