PSG coach and his son, arrested in investigation for racism

Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier and his son have been detained as part of an investigation into allegations of alleged racism at one of his former teams, Nice prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme told The Associated Press.

Galtier and his son John Valovic-Galtier were taken into police custody for questioning Friday, Bonhomme said.

When the scandal broke earlier this year, Galtier, who is leaving PSG but still has an ongoing contract, denied accusations that he had made racist and anti-Muslim comments while in charge of Nice.

RMC Sport and other French media published reports citing a leaked email from Nice’s former sporting director Julien Fournier to the club’s owners accusing Galtier of saying there were too many black and Muslim footballers in the squad.

In a statement sent by his lawyer to French media, Galtier said he was “shocked to learn of the insulting and defamatory (report)” and said he would take unspecified legal action.
