Canadian punk rock band Sum 41 have announced their split. “We wanted you to hear that from us first,” the musicians said in a statement released yesterday: “Sum 41 will be dissolved.”

The band will complete all upcoming tour dates for 2023 including the Nova Rock Festival performance on June 8th. A final album is said to be titled “Heaven :x: Hell”. Then there will be one last worldwide tour “to celebrate”.

Being part of the band has given the musicians “some of the best moments of our lives” since 1996. They are grateful to their fans for the support. “We are excited to see what the future holds for each of us,” the statement said. “Thank you for the last 27 years of Sum 41.”

Sum 41 has a turbulent history behind it. The Canadians made their international breakthrough in 2001 with their hit “Fat Lip” and were on the verge of dying again and again in the years that followed. In 2014, lead singer Deryck Whibley was hospitalized after binge drinking with liver and kidney failure. He processed his addiction in the album “13 Voices”.
