Forgot the cat

After watching a program about animals, Sporsem tells a story that makes his friend gape.

The family had had the cat Max for many years. In 2017, Sporsem discovered little Max squeezed to death by the garage door.

– He had probably tried to sneak in before it was closed, the comedian tells TV 2.

Sporsem wrapped the dead cat tightly in newspaper and put it in the freezer.

– I wanted to hide him from the children and prevent the betrayal process from starting. The plan was to have him cremated relatively quickly, but a lot happened at the time, so he was unfortunately forgotten.

Heard screams

Six days later, the youngest daughter, who was six at the time, was going to get an ice cream on a hot summer’s day.

She had not expected that the family cat would also lie among the ice.

– She knew the cat was dead, but did not expect to find it in the freezer. I had forgotten about the cat until I heard her scream. It was very unfortunate that she had to find the family cat that way, and I’m sorry that it turned out this way, he explains, adding:

Being put out by the girlfriend: – Will you drop that bomb now?!

– I’m not quite Jeffrey Dahmer, he says and chuckles.

Uses humor to talk about difficult things

Max’s death was the children’s first encounter with death in their close family. He was known to be a brawler, and the terror of the neighborhood.

– It was extra painful as it was our first family cat. My family and I were in a grieving process after the incident, but it was a great opportunity to talk about death with the children.

As a comedian, he often uses humor to talk about difficult topics. Among other things, Sporsem has a show where he discusses what it is like to be a relative of his mother who has Alzheimer’s.

– Humor can be a very important tool for coping with difficult situations and life crises. Being able to laugh, even when faced with tragic circumstances, is important to me, and a quality both my family and I think is important to have.

I said no several times

About four months after Max died, the family got a new cat – in addition to a dog. The four-legged pets can be seen in Sofa with Sporsem and his friend Nilsen.

– I have declined to be part of Sofa several times. It wasn’t until I heard that Nilsen was going to take part that I agreed. He is a good friend that I have had for many years, and he has been both my fiancé and godfather to my youngest daughter. It is important to have a good friend with whom I can both cry and laugh, he concludes.
