Rachid Nekkaz sentenced to 5 years in prison
On Sunday July 3, 2022, the Algiers Court of Appeal sentenced Rachid Nekkaz to 5 years in prison, as well as a fine of one thousand 500 thousand dinars. It should be remembered that the latter is detained for another reason.
Rachid Nekkaz was arrested and imprisoned for the first time in December 2019, before being released in February 2021. A few months after his release, in December 2021, he was sentenced at first instance to one year in prison for the charges ” of incitement to an unarmed gathering” and for “having attempted to prevent citizens from exercising their right to vote” during the 2019 presidential elections. During his appeal trial, the Algiers court therefore condemned him to 5 years in prison.
