Released in theaters last week, Ant-Man (3) and the Wasp: Quantumania met with mixed success, both from critics and the public. However, at the moment, it is not the least well-received MCU film, we explain why.

Ant-Man also cinema, it’s a saga with ups… and downs. For the first part, we were treated to a fairly pleasant adventure, in particular thanks to the work of Edgar Wright who had worked on the project for a long time before being thanked by Marvel and replaced by Peyton Reed. His leg so recognizable by his humor and his very fast editing style set a pleasant tone within the MCU. As for Ant-Man 2, namely Ant-Man and the Wasp, we were treated to something much more like what we find in Marvel films, but which worked with the public. and criticism.
Without getting too wet, we can say that this third installment was the most anticipated for many reasons. First of all, the feature film concretely introduces Kang, the villain designated as the big villain of the Multiverse saga, exactly like Thanos for the previous great Marvel epic. On this aspect, both the critics and the public salute the performance of Jonathan Majors. Afterwards, the feature film was expected for its more epic aspect and big budget which was a little lacking in the previous parts. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to have convinced critics or audiences alike. Still, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania isn’t the MCU’s lowest-rated movie.
Really the worst of the MCU movie?
To put things in context, you surely know Rotten Tomatoes, a site dedicated to cinema and series which is considered the main indicator for taking the temperature of both critics and the public. The rating is displayed as a percentage and is an average of all reviews. At the time when his lines are written, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has a critical score of 48% and 84% from the audience. Well can you imagine that we find a lower rating in the MCU with the Eternals and its 47% critics and 77% audience. When it was released in 2021, Chloé Zhao’s film had many divided by its more sedate approach and which changed a little from what the MCU offered. A proposal that really failed to convince, even if the film has its defenders.
However, We can still question this kind of notations. When you see other outright-criticized MCU movies like the first two Thors that have critical scores of 77% and 66%, respectively, one has to wonder if those Rotten Tomatoes averages are really legit. And what about 2008’s The Incredible Hulk which has 67% critics and 69% audience. Same goes for Captain Marvel which has a critical score of 79% and a public rating of 45%. So is The Eternals the worst movie in the MCU? According to RottenTomatoes yes, but not sure if this really reflects the collective opinion.
