“Don’t be bored.” Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) remains true to its motto. Certainly less in his (television) program, but increasingly in the way in which radio contributions were dealt with. In the era of director Patricia Schlesinger, who was fired without notice, there was a culture of gathering. The insatiable caterpillars acted in the management.

All inclusive care

Schlesinger’s income, for example: as reported by businessinsider.de Annual basic salary of around 300,000 euros, bonus of 50,000 euros, 4,200 euros expense allowance, 18,000 for other things. When the ambitious was still ARD chairman, 2000 euros per month should be added. And together with Wolf-Dieter Wolf, the head of the board of directors at the time, she ensured that the system was maintained. The directors, who were already provided with salary and bonuses, were also granted additional payments for the years of the ARD chairmanship.

Katrin Vernau, interim director of the RBB, says, “here measure and middle have been completely lost”. It’s not just this more and more that amazes, it’s this mixture of self-service and a feeling of omnipotence that must be outraged. We are worth it, enough can’t be enough. At some point, Schlesinger and his followers must have disconnected from reality.

There are media reports that have uncovered the new impositions on the contributors. Not the station, not the committees, not the new management around director Vernau. Are those responsible on Masurenallee aware of what’s going on there? The Berlin-Brandenburg public broadcaster presents itself as a swampy landscape whose width, length and depth have not yet been definitively measured.

Joachim Huber follows the RBB scandal with increasing astonishment at the magnitude of what happened.

Don’t be surprised. Distrust grows.
