Real estate agents demonstrate at the mayor's office

More than 15,000 real estate professionals gathered this Wednesday morning in front of City Hall to protest the Apartment Rental Fairness Act.

They demonstrate to protest against the Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses Law.

It is also known as the Real Estate Agent Fee Law.

The bill would force anyone who hires a real estate agent to pay his or her fees, which are often exorbitant.

Real estate advocates say this will cause rents to skyrocket and create a less transparent rental market by discouraging the use of brokers, harming both agents and tenants.

Similar bills have been proposed in the past, but none have succeeded.

The Council meets on this topic starting at 10 in the morning.
