At the end of 2021 at The Game Awards show the official announcement of Alan Wake I, the next Remedy Entertainment project that will also be the most ambitious and biggest to date, according to Sam Lake. In a recent interview, the creator of Alan Wake and the director of the second game confirmed that this time they are developing a survival horror.

Although the first Alan Wake is inspired by Stephen King’s books and Twin Peaks, it is actually a third-person action video game, but this time Remedy Entertainment is creating a game of the Survival Horror genre. However, we will have to wait a bit longer to find out how the horror mechanics work in Alan Wake II.

This week the Gamesradar site published an interview with Sam Lake and with Kyle Rowley, the director of Alan Wake II at Remedy Entertainment. In said interview Rowley confirmed a change in tone compared to the first game, but says he can’t elaborate on his approach to survival horror at the moment. “What it will say is that we want to put our foot down and say that we are creating Remedy’s take on the survival horror genre,” said director Rowley.

The director also said that all the elements of Alan Wake II are being done with this Survival Horror approach, such as the gameplay, the narrative, the atmosphere, and the music. For his part, Sam Lake, the creative director of Alan Wake II and creator/writer of the first game, said that Alan Wake II is the most ambitious project for Remedy Entertainment to date.

Sam Lake also said that Alan Wake II will welcome new players so you won’t need to play the first title to enjoy it. Even so, the game will be full of easter eggs to both the first Alan Wake and Control, the acclaimed game that the studio launched in 2019 and which is set in the same universe, as confirmed with its DLC.

Remedy Entertainment is also working on Control 2, a Control spin-off with a multiplayer focus and a Max Payne remake, it may be a while before we get to see more of Alan Wake II, which doesn’t have a confirmed window at the moment. launch and is only expected to eventually reach Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 and PC through the Epic Games Store.
