In numerical superiority for half an hour, Rennes dismissed Bordeaux (1-2), this Saturday, during the 32nd finals of the Coupe de France. A logical victory for the Breton club which left the Gironde team with few chances.

Bourigeaud opened the Bordeaux score.

Rennes is off to a good start in 2023. Five days after its success against Nice (2-1), the Breton club logically won Bordeaux (1-2), this Saturday, in the 32nd round of the Coupe de France. A deserved success for the Bruno Genesio band, in numerical superiority for half an hour.

Maja answers Bourigeaud

In a great atmosphere at Matmut Atlantique, the Rennais were not impressed and immediately took control of the ball. Despite Xeka’s premature exit through injury, the Bretons kept a cool head and ended up finding the fault thanks to Bourigeaud, without pity on his recovery after a superb opening in depth from Theate (0-1, 23rd).

Not really jostling, the Rouge et Noir maintained continuous pressure on the Girondins, players but too rough with the ball. Quite the opposite of the visitors, who still gave shivers Straczek, decisive on a low shot from Tait. Before the break, however, Maja took advantage of a mess in the area to gallop with a flat foot under Mandanda’s arm (1-1, 45th + 2).

Burgundy cracks

The improvement in Bordeaux was not confirmed when they returned from the locker room. Opportunistic, Doku restored the advantage to his team with a shot deviated from the left foot (1-2, 53rd). Better still for the resident of Ligue 1, not far from scoring a third time by Gouiri, Bordeaux found themselves ten following the expulsion of Bokele for a dangerous intervention on Tait (60th).

Led and outnumbered, Bordeaux was no longer able to do so. Apart from a few timid incursions, the Marine et Blancs were well contained and could thank their goalkeeper, who was still decisive on a fine strike from Gouiri which headed for the top corner. An end to the match well mastered by Rennes who will see the next round. For the FCGB, the adventure is already over.

The score of the match: 6/10

A lively encounter. Rennes played their usual score by systematically seeking to attack. Bordeaux did not die but the lack of experience to manage the weak times was fatal to the Girondins. A logical score.

The goals :

– From his half of the field, Theate sends an aerial ball in depth for Bourigeaud. The former Lensois succeeds in his control and deceives Straczek with a precise mid-height shot (0-1.23rd).

– The Girondins attacking the right axis but come up against two Rennais who came to defend. The ball is not cleared and returns to the feet of Maja, who places a precise flat left foot under the arm of Mandanda (1-1, 45 + 2).

– After two Rennes attempts, the ball remains in the Bordeaux area. On the left, Doku places a shot with his left foot slightly deflected by an opponent to surprise Straczek (1-2, 53rd).

Players’ NOTES

Maxifoot has assigned a score (out of 10) comments on each player.

Man of the match: Benjamin Bourigeaud (7.5/10)

The hero of the match against Nice has made the powder speak again. Omnipresent in the game, the former Lensois this time opened the scoring with a precise mid-height shot after a nice call from deep. He made great efforts throughout the evening to allow his team to perform well on both sides of the pitch.

BORDEAUX :

Rafal Straczek (7): the Polish goalkeeper released a big game. He beat the deadline many times, especially against Gouiri with two fine saves. A fine evening for him despite the defeat.

Malcom Bokele (4): the Bordeaux right side is passed. Overwhelmed too many times, he was sent off directly on the hour mark for a very dangerous foul on Tait. The beginning of the end for his team.

Stian Gregersen (6): the Norwegian central defender did not have much to reproach himself for in this match. He was good in his position to repel Gouiri’s approaches for more than an hour.

Junior Mwanga (6): the Bordelais made a good copy by intercepting many transmissions from Rennes. He made himself respected in the duels and was rather clean in his raises.

Jacques Ekomie (4): a small exit for the left side. He forgets Bourigeaud, gone behind his back, on the action of the first goal. The Gabonese was globally feverish. Replace 78th minute with Aliou Badji (not not).

Tom Lacoux (4.5): the Girondin captain was too neutral in this match. He did not manage to raise his level of play to meet the requirements of such a meeting. Replace the 64th minute with Dilane Bakwa (not not).

Fransrgio (5.5): better tonight compared to his performances since his arrival. The Brazilian at least has the merit of having tried to bring the danger even if everything was not perfect in the execution.

Lenny Pirringuel (4): still too tender. The young Aquitanian had a lot of trouble distinguishing himself. He was no match for the more experienced Tait and Majer. Replace the 64th minute with Danilo Ignatenko (not).

Josh Maja (6): the English striker touched few balls but he was effective in his gestures. It is he who hangs out in the area to equalize on a fox goal. Insufficient, of course, but this achievement gave Bordeaux hope. Replace the 63rd minute with Clment Michelin (not rated).

Zuriko Davitashvili (6): an interesting outing for the Georgian striker, who did not hesitate to switch with his partners to cover his tracks. He managed some interesting combinations on the side attacks and is not far from scoring just after the opener for Rennes. Replace the 75th minute with Vital Nsimba (not not).

Alberth Elis (5): a tone below his offensive partners. Even if he made some differences with his speed, the Honduran lacked technical accuracy overall.

REINDEER :

Steve Mandanda (5): the Rennes goalkeeper had almost nothing to do in this part. He was beaten before the break on a strike that he could have repelled but reassured his people at the last minute on a final attempt from Bordeaux.

Hamari Traor (7): strong. The captain of the Breton club respected his status as good on both sides of the field. He is particularly involved in the goal of Doku. At the height of its flattering reputation.

Christopher Wooh (5.5): good and less good for the Cameroonian international. He made a good intervention shortly after the hour mark following the loss of the ball by Theate but committed several avoidable faults at the entrance to the surface. The only informed player next to Rennes.

Arthur Theate (6): like Wooh, the Belgian central defender had some interesting things to say, including this magnificent opening for Bourigeaud on the first goal. He also had a few oversights, such as this loss of ball which could have been fatal shortly after the hour mark.

Birger Meling (5): the Norwegian left side was not very transcendent. He didn’t bring much to his lane despite Bokele’s defensive mistakes. Replace the 46th minute with Adrian Truffert (5.5)who was a little more active, helped by the premature exit of the Bordeaux right-back.

Benjamin Bourigeaud (7.5): read comment above.

Xeka (not not): the Portuguese midfielder did not last long. He locked his ankle during a duel with Fransergio. Replace the 13th minute with Lesley Ugochukwu (5.5), which was just about right. His withdrawal to the Bordeaux goal is not authoritative enough.

Lovro Majer (5): the Croatian midfielder did not show a good form either. His technical quality well above average allowed him to participate actively in the Rennes attacks but we expect much better from him, especially in risk taking. Replace 74th minute with Arnaud Kalimuendo (not not).

Flavien Tait (7): a real good match for the Breton midfielder who was valuable in his forward projections. He often made it possible to push back the opposing block thanks to his ability to play forward with or without the ball.

Amine Gouiri (6): the French striker did not score but he was in good shape in this match. He forced the Bordeaux goalkeeper to bring out the big game twice in the second half with well-placed shots. Its partners have taken over to deal with its ineffectiveness.

Jeremy Doku (6): the Belgian winger was willing. He didn’t do everything well, but it was still him who burst into the box to offer victory to his team shortly after the break. Replace 74th minute with Kamaldeen Sulemana (not not).
