The first The Division became known for its incredible graphics, but also had a rather unique concept for a game with a live service layout, which was also really fun to play. With The Division 2, Swedish Massive Entertainment improved pretty much everything and it was well received and sold quite well, which led to the series reaching over 40 million players in 2021. However, it did worse commercially than Ubisoft expected and the support has therefore been a mixed bag.

The Division 2 launched back in 2019, which is now four years ago, but so far we haven’t heard any information about The Division 3, and the smartphone title The Division Resurgence and the ‘free to play’ project The Division: Heartland are the only new ones things confirmed to be coming from the series. Heartland is being developed by Red Storm Entertainment, while Massive Entertainment is working on Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and an as-yet-undisclosed Star Wars title.

Now reporting Insider Gaming that their sources have confirmed that there is no The Division 3 in development at Ubisoft, and that means we shouldn’t expect another numbered game in the series for quite some time. Developing major games is time-consuming and takes at least three years, which means that a best-case scenario would be a release in 2027 at the earliest if they started today (which of course they won’t).

It looks like The Division fans will have to settle for The Division Resurgence and The Division: Heartland for the foreseeable future.
