The Haylou GT7 Neo are Bluetooth headphones that enter a market space heavily exploited by Chinese brands. Proof of this is that the device in the R$ 100 range even beats models from its fellow Xiaomi.

Therefore, it is clear that their proposal is to deliver the experience in a way that makes sense to the public that is not so demanding with audio, or that just wants to save money. So, find out if the in-ear headphones are worth it or not throughout the full review.

design and build

Physically, the Haylou GT7 Neo doesn’t deviate from the format we’ve seen in other headphones from the brand. As they are in-ear headphones, the format favors comfort and fit in ears of different sizes.

That’s because the passive sound insulation rubbers provide the necessary fixation for using the headphones in different activities, less physical exercises. They do not have certifications that protect them from contact with liquids, it is recommended to avoid this type of exposure.

The charging case is simple, similar to the model used by Xiaomi in AirDots. However, the case is thinner, and the impact of this adjustment is noticeable in the position of the USB-C connection.

Usually, this port is on the back of the cover, or even on the front. However, Haylou’s model has this recharge access built into the right. It’s different, but it doesn’t bother you on a daily basis.

Commands

On the back of the headphones, there are the sensors that allow the execution of the basic commands provided by them. It was a little difficult for me to adapt to the fact that, to play or pause a song, you would have to press the phone instead of just tapping it, as is the default on other models. I found this change unnecessary. Check out all his commands below. See what they are:

  • Press: play or pause;
  • 2 rings: next track (right) or previous track (left);
  • 3 taps: low latency mode (gamer mode).

sound quality

The Haylou GT7 Neo has an 8 mm dynamic driver, and, despite the size, the hardware proves to be very competent in terms of user experience. In general use, I felt the frequencies acting clearly on the headphones, and this demonstrates that the company managed to adjust the equipment well.

The bass is too powerful for headphones in this price range. I’ve used more than twenty devices with similar values over the last five years, and I guarantee that these are the entry-level models that work best at this frequency.

In some moments, as in the song “Creepin”, by Abel (The Weeknd), you could even feel a little sub-bass. Shy, but it was there. The mids and highs are well defined, and the sound is clean.

As for the maximum volume, I was happily surprised that it didn’t blow out the sound. On the other hand, for outdoor environments, I felt a lack of height to compensate for basic noises like people walking and birds chirping.

The passive insulation of the rubbers helps, but it doesn’t work a miracle, and the absence of ANC to make it cheaper could be compensated with a larger volume. The low latency mode works very well, and when playing PUBG, it is noticeable that the sound is more synchronized with the movements. The positive part is that this function also favors the consumption of lives on video platforms.

battery and connectivity

Haylou guarantees that the GT7 Neo will have autonomy to support up to 6 and a half hours of constant use. There is the possibility of raising these numbers to 22 hours with the case refills. However, in practical use, I missed more energy.

Listening to songs with the volume at 50%, alternating this use with the consumption of videos and games, I got 5 hours and 50 minutes of autonomy. It is a value very close to the estimate, but I believe that the Chinese could have added more battery to guarantee at least 8 hours of use.

Since the brand does not deliver differentiated features, a larger battery would draw more attention. The connection with the cell phone is simple, but they have Bluetooth 5.2 to ensure a more stable experience.

direct competitor

The QCY T18 are big competitors of the Haylou GT7 Neo. The sound quality is interesting, as they manage to give more clarity to the sound when playing music, without one frequency standing out over the other.

The only point that may bother anyone who enjoys the sound of Haylou headphones is that QCY accessories lose a little bass at maximum volume. But overall, they’re products that compete evenly for space with the good, basic, cheap models.

In Brazil, the price of the GT7 Neo at retailers is almost half of that charged by the T18, as the Haylou model can be purchased for R$ 125. Comparing the price of the two models via import, the QCY headphones have the same price, and the value makes sense for all the positive points it delivers.

Are the Haylou GT7 Neo really good?

The Haylou GT7 Neo are perfect headphones for anyone who wants a great product for little money. This is because they deliver positive points that are noticeable from the first use, such as the comfort provided, although I find the change in the “standard” command of playing or pausing a song quite controversial.

The sound quality really surprised me, because they manage to demonstrate a balance between the frequencies, and not the dominance of the mids. This adjustment demonstrates that, for this cheap model, the Chinese has adapted its “audio signature” to something more pleasing to the public.

However, I felt that the battery could deliver more autonomy, since there are no hardware resources that could negatively impact the power consumption of the headphones. Even keeping the balance between expectation and reality, Haylou could have done more in this regard.

On the other hand, the price close to R$ 120 for the purchase of the headphones here is a great attraction. After all, there aren’t many models in the same range that deliver equivalent features. So, considering these points, it makes sense to choose the GT7 Neo.
