EU.- The American channel Adult Swim has fired Justin Roiland, co-creator and voice actor of the popular animated series ‘Rick and Morty’, after being accused of domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend on January 12, during a pre-trial hearing in the US .UU.

“Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” the series’ Twitter account posted on Wednesday. “Rick and Morty will continue,” she added.

Roiland’s roles, who played Rick and Morty, will be replaced by other voice actors, as the comedy series isn’t even halfway through the 70-episode total requested for the show, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Although the network has cut ties with Roiland, it ensures that he will always be credited as co-creator of the series, however, co-creator Dan Harmon will now be the sole executive producer and main writer of the series.

In the midst of the controversy, the video game company Squanch Games, of which Roiland is the founder, has announced that he resigned last Monday.

  • A criminal complaint against Roiland was filed in May 2020 by the Orange County District Attorney, following an incident that occurred in mid-January of the same year against his then-girlfriend.
  • In that sense, Roiland faces a felony charge of domestic assault with bodily harm and another for felony unlawful retention with threats, violence, fraud and deceit.
  • Following the filing of the criminal complaint, Roiland was arrested and released on $50,000 bail in August 2020.
