SAN DIEGO.- Marvel Studios returned to the annual comic book fair Comic-Con, held annually in San Diego, with dancers dressed as Deadpool and a panel that provided news about the two upcoming Deadpool films. The Avengers and which featured surprise guests including Harrison Ford and Robert Downey Jr.
Downey will return to the Marvel movies, but not as Iron Man. He will play the villain Victor Von Doom, or Doctor Doomin one of the upcoming films The Avengers. Downey kicked off Marvel’s blockbuster film series with “Iron Man” and portrayed the popular character in nine films, but on Saturday he appeared in the mask and costume of Doctor Doom.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that due to the success of Deadpool & Wolverine This weekend, the sprawling Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) had already surpassed $30 billion in box office receipts. Alluding to a scene from the film, a choir sang Like a Prayer from Madonna before Feige spoke.
Deadpool & Wolverine, released Thursday, has already broken one record and could break more in its opening weekend. Feige used Saturday’s panel to lay out the way forward for the MCU, and revealed Ford’s character in the next MCU film. Captain America. He also indicated that Avengers: Secret Wars y Avengers: Doomsday will be the titles of the next two films in the epic series of the superhero team.
Feige said all of the actors introduced Saturday will appear in upcoming Marvel films. The Avengerswhich Joe and Anthony Russo will direct. The cast of Captain America: Brave New World (Giancarlo Esposito, Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez and Anthony Mackie) was the first to take the stage and provide details about the upcoming film. Esposito revealed that he will play the villain Seth Voelker, aka Sidewinder.
The cast then stepped away to share a scene from the film on screen, revealing that President Thaddeus, Thunderbolt Ross, played by Ford, hopes to rebuild the Avengers with Mackie’s character Sam Wilson. It also showed Ford’s character’s transformation into the Red Hulk. Ford joined the panel after fans saw clips from the film and showed off his muscles to the audience.
The cast and director of Thunderbolts also surprised fans with a brief clip from the film. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan and David Harbour (in full costume and speaking at the beginning as the Red Guardian) stormed the stage and shared some additional details about their characters.
The premiere is scheduled for May 2025.
The last film presented at the panel was The Fantastic Four, starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. According to Feige, the film is set to begin shooting on Tuesday in London.
He said the film will hit theaters almost exactly a year from now, in July 2025.
