This week, the government decided to propose an amendment to the law that removes the ban on building new nuclear power at other locations than where reactors already exist today, that is Ringhals, Oskarshamn and Forsmark.

TT has asked all 290 municipalities in a survey: “Can you imagine building nuclear power in your municipality?”

132 have answered. 18 percent or 24 municipalities answer yes to that question. Half say no, while the rest, 32 percent, answer “don’t know”.

Helped

20 out of 24 yes answers come from municipalities that are in some way governed by a coalition of the most nuclear-friendly parties M, KD, L and SD.

– I am thinking of the energy situation we have in Sweden and out in Europe. Then we have to help each other. And then we can’t sit and say no and defer the question to someone else. And I see great benefits locally and regionally with jobs and other things. There are really only winners here, says Roger Fredriksson (M), chairman of the municipal board in Ronneby.

The discussion has been up before in the municipality. And Fredriksson also points to the advantage of the proximity to good electricity infrastructure in nearby Karlshamn and the oil-fired Swedish reserve unit.
