MADRID (EUROPA PRESS).– The Russian Armed Forces launched this Friday a new wave of attacks on the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, coinciding with the visit to the city of a delegation of African leaders who aspire to mediate between the two sides and who have Planned to travel to Russia as well.

The mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed an explosion in the Podilski neighborhood, without a preliminary balance of possible victims. “The missiles continue to fly over kyiv,” he said on his Telegram account, shortly after the alert systems were activated.

The Armed Forces also warned the population to go down to the shelters, after warning of the firing of ballistic missiles from the Black Sea, within a battery of attacks that also affected other regions. In total, the Army confirmed the downing of 12 missiles, as well as two drones.

The bombing coincides with the visit to the Ukrainian capital of a delegation of African leaders headed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who aspires to mediate between kyiv and Moscow. The group also plans to travel to Russia later, to meet with President Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dimitro Kuleba linked the latest attack to the foreign visit: “Putin seeks confidence by launching the biggest missile attack in weeks.” “Russian missiles are a message to Africa: Russia wants more war, not peace,” he denounced on Twitter.
