A former British agent is said to have noticed abnormal movements of Russian ships during the attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines in September. This is reported by theMirror”. Using radio technology, he recorded unusual activities east of the Danish island of Bornholm.
The ships are said to have switched off their automatic identification system, in such cases one speaks of so-called dark ships, and have stayed close to the explosion sites.
According to the report, the retired secret service agent observed the Russian Baltic Fleet in his free time, locating them using radio technology and consulting open sources. A Scandinavian team of reporters shared his data with several German media.
In addition to the movements of so-called “dark ships”, the recordings are intended to provide information on Russian espionage activities in the Baltic Sea. Russia is increasingly targeting strategic targets such as offshore wind farms and other infrastructure.
A total of four explosions in September in the economic zones of Sweden and Denmark in the Baltic Sea caused several leaks in the Nord Stream pipelines, which were built to transport Russian gas to Germany. The pipelines were not operating at the time of the explosions but contained gas. According to Sweden, sabotage is behind the incident. Accordingly, explosive residues were detected.
